(http://www.emersonquartet.com/) In June of 2009, we organized in the Palau de la Música de Valencia, again together with Fundacion Eutherpe, a meeting with members of Emerson String Quartet. The aim of this kind of meetings is to help to a better knowlege by the public of the human aspects of the greatest artists.

philosophy

The chamber music has some very specific characteristics to observe. To achieve a high level, artistic and instrumental skills and knowledge are required that are somewhat different from those required for playing in an orchestra, even for the soloist.
There is a know-how involved, which is not complicated actually, but if it is not well mastered, a lot of time and energy can be wasted to set up the works and the result is often not convincing.
Getting valuable performances and interpretations is relatively simple. You only need to know the steps to follow. This is what we intend to convey, among other things, to anyone who is open and ready to enter this magical world.

And, why Chamber Music?

One can say with full conviction that the area that brings most satisfaction, achievement and fulfilment is undoubtedly the concert activity in the field of chamber music.
And this is due to several important reasons:

1º. The repertoire is the highest, the most intimate, essential, intense, concentrated of all music (not just classical). Composers use to bring the most noble and refined thing, since this is the kind of music that goes deep inside rather than to a large public.

2º. There is the possibility of having the greatest freedom possible in terms of expression through music, since there's no reliance on the limitations and determining factors of orchestras and conductors to such an extent (as in the great soloist). There is also the possibility of choosing partners based on multiple affinities, both human and artistic.

3º. The proportion of the technical difficulty of the works in relation to its content and expressive value, depth, authenticity is obviously very supportive of the expression. That is, works are not so technically difficult, by contrast they are very beautiful and it is possible to get to enjoy the music and get others to enjoy it, much sooner and with less energy expenditure. A time and energy which they spare so they can reinvest, to deepen futher into the works and/or diversifying the repertoire.

of whom it should be emphasized

THE EXQUISITE QUALITY BOTH HUMAN AND ARTISTIC THAT CHARACTERIZES THEM AND ESPECIALLY THEIR FANTASTIC POTENTIAL AND CAPACITY TO VIBRATE WITH MUSIC AND TO TRANSMIT THIS PASSION AND INTENSITY TO THE PUBLIC BEYOND THEIR PROVEN VIRTUOSITY.

Ideal profile of the musicians

First of all, concerning this project, we appreciate more the interpreter’s ability to vibrate and feel moved by music that an outstanding virtuosity, but somewhat sterile.
A high technical ability is very necessary and useful, but what interest us here is going beyond this level. Virtuosity, if it does exist, is welcome and must be relegated to a second place, only as a tool, as a means to serve the music. In no way it should overshadow and sacrifice the artistic and emotional expression.

Likewise, the musician's natural impulse towards reflection, depth and serenity is important, as well as towards cheerfulness, companionship and solidarity.

Infrastructure and method

Compañía de Cámara offers a welcoming Study in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, very close to the Reina Sofia Palace of the Arts, a wonderful grand piano Kaway, a professional recording equipment and a high fidelity stereo.

Recording is used in the rehearsals and classes in order to support, in a more objective way, the ideas and solutions that are presented and proposed.

The system to set up a work starts from a previous analysis, having listened to several versions and developed a "script", a music "road map". Then the strategy that offers greater efficiency, speed and perfection will be chosen. But always from a higher artistic, emotional and overall perspective.
In fact, it is a highly reliable system, proven and tested and thus the massive loss of time in fruitless searches is avoided.
The best chamber works ever written for two, three, four, five or more instruments are selected. The base of the repertoire is the masterpieces of geniuses of the classicism and romanticism.

Organizational aspects

There are contacts with several auditoriums. A concert halls network willing to schedule chamber groups that plays the best repertory at a high artistic level is being created.

The Spain-based concert network, of course, is expected to be international in a short time.

On one side there is the group Compañía de Cámara and on the other side there are the Associated Groups in Master, Professional as well as in Junior levels.

The terms of integration as a full member of the Compañía de Cámara are detailed and established in a personalized way for each participant.

The operation dynamics of the Associated Groups is the following: they go through a period of rehearsals (for Master and Professional) and rehearsal-lessons (for Junior) in order to accommodate to the style and the Company requirements. In fact the whole programs and projects must be monitored by the artistic coordinator or by a member of the Compañía de Cámara.

Concerts are paid for interpreters. Compañía de Cámara reserves a commission for the management/organization of all concerts and a percentage of the fee by way of training and programs set-up (in the case of Master and Professional). Junior groups pay duly for the rehearsals-lessons. The details of the percentages and prices for the lessons are negotiated in each case on the basis of the general budget for concerts, the difficulty of programs and the associated groups’ level.
Compañía de Cámara always gives away a first session (which serves as a reciprocal proof) to all the Associated Groups’ musicians.

All those who identified with the ideals expressed here are politely invited to participate.

*The associated groups: Master, Professional and Junior

Masters are groups with an important artistic background, whose principal activity is the concert and record activity in the field of chamber music. The reason for their association with Compañía de Cámara and its activities stems from a desire to share the most subtle and sophisticated aspects of the works, and find out the genuine inspiration of the great music geniuses.

The groups pertaining to the Professional category are trained by professional musicians, working as teachers in conservatories and/or playing in orchestras, but wish to participate in projects promoted by Compañía de Cámara. At the same time they are people who share our ideals and have a desire to deepen and improve themselves.

Junior are groups consisting of young music graduates or senior students who wish to expand the education they have received during their studies and participate in activities and concerts organized by Compañía de Cámara.

Artistic coordinator

Stefan Doru Pop

He has specialized in chamber music and mainly in string quartet after completing studies and graduated at the Conservatory of Music in Bucharest. He studied violin with Stefan Gheorghiu, a disciple of Oistrach and participated in courses with A. Gertler and Max Rostal, in Germany.
Holding different positions for some years as a concertmaster in professional orchestras in Romania and Italy he discovered that the world of chamber music was infinitely more rich, demanding, complex and satisfying.

Therefore, along with the string quartet (Silvestri) that he founded with several colleagues in the Bucharest Philharmonic orchestra, he decided to study and improve himself. They received fellowships from the Italian Government, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Florence) and the Academy of Chigiana, Siena. They studied for five years with Piero Farulli (Italian Quartet) mainly, he was their great teacher. But they also had contacts and complete courses with members of the famous Amadeus Quartet, Tokyo, Guarneri, La Salle, Smetana, Ysaye, and so on. They had contacts with Yehudi Menuhin and Sergiu Celibidache, who also had a considerably influence on their artistic training.

As a result, they won two First Prizes in International Competitions in Italy (Cremona and Casale Monferato), they won many awards and received many recognitions and obtained success from the public and the reviews. They were already entering into the international circuit of major concert halls.

However, considering that the dynamics in which the artistic market operated did not fully satisfy him, Stefan D. Pop decided to withdraw from the Quartet and for some time he devoted himself to reflect, investigate and meditate.
He is eager to convey the conclusions of his time of reflection to anyone who is interested in knowing them. Compañía de Cámara is the ideal instrument for sharing his experience and he is confident of being able to help and support anyone willing to approach the wonderful world of music in an authentic way.
